Jan. 1, 1997 to present:

Oct. 1, 2004 to present: 
Co-founder and managing partner: The Surveillance Intelligence Group (SIG).
Duties include planning and executiing covert surveillance projects and training surveillance agents.  

Sept: 2000 to July 2005:
Qualified capital case investigator, California State Office of the Public Defender, Capital Case Division.

April 1981 to Dec.1996:
Investigative/crime reporter and columnist for the Fresno Bee, a McClatchy newspaper, winner of six major awards for investigative reporting. During this time, I was the paper's lead investigator on many of its major in-depth investigative reports. Duties included background investigations on individuals, businesses, politicians; and political and governmental agencies -- including financial investigations. Duties also included extensive database and Internet research as well as subject/witness locator work. While at the Bee I was a two-time recipient of the Grunner Award (best regional reporting) and a two time recipient of The Best of Bee Award (the paper's top reporting award). Prior to coming to McClatchy in 1987, I was a reporter for Script Leagues Newspapers where I received two state-wide awards for investigative and political reporting.

  • I have earned 24 credits toward a Certified Fraud Specialist investigator rating.
  • CACJ Capital Case Seminars: 1999; 2000; 2001; 2002; 2003, 2004.
  • Additional education includes DITA, CACJ or CALI sponsored seminars / classes in: crime scene methodology, accident investigation, forensics and evidence collecting; interview and interrogation techniques; eyewitness interviewing; advanced crime and accident scene photography.
